Free Downloads for the Summer 08 Sunday, June 29th, 2008

To celebrate and mark this upcoming 08 Summer season, we’ve decided to unleash into the wild for FREE two previously unreleased tracks from the label’s vault. Only a select few have had the pleasure to hear them.  Now you, the fans to DECNY, get to download and share these gems while they are available.

Don Davenport’s – Strut (Switch vs Mista A mix): A blended two-headed race of electro and hard-house, waving and weaving in and out in a perfect harmony of beats and a  pleasing cacophony of sounds.  It’s definitely a mash-up like no other, to pipe loud in your sets or in your digital players.

Mista A – Mental Health Hotline (Timmy’s mix):  If you thought the 9xSixXninex6 mix was insane, wait till you hear the result of locking Timmy inside the padded room for 7 days with nothing but a microphone, an old 4-track recorder and 4 samples, and absolutely nothing else.

All tracks are made available for download courtesy of KVYM.NET Online Radio. We thank them for their undying support and encourage you to pay them a visit.

These tracks are available only here on the Decibel NYC Recordings blog.  Tell your friends, pass on the address and encourage them to download a track and get some fresh wallpapers while here (wallpapers set 1 and set 2). Spread the love….

Massive update on the who’s who catalog… Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

it may look like we’ve been on vacation for quite a while, but au contraire! actually, it’s been a bit of both.

most of the staff was allowed to drift during the holiday season in order to recharge their creative juices and come back refreshed and full of new ideas and new productions. on that front, the artists on this label did not dissappoint and that’s why we encourage and foster each and every bit of their deviant and twisted sides in order to capture all this creativity in sounds.

here’s what was released recently and almost quietly:
We Are Decibel NYC – VOL I – mixed by Orduna, featuring such label gems as Stupid Prick by VB Heinze, Mental Health Hotline by Mista A and Mad CowsSpies. it’s a bang-up-side-your-head hour schooling of what this label is about; in sounds and in beats.

already a popular download on Beatport, expect a special deluxe edition package with additional mixes and media features to be available soon from our upcoming digital download service.

two sets of remix packages were also released recently: Rise Up – The Remixes with special treatment by vladimir neuymin and dj noxxer and Spies – The Remixes with reworks by dj noxxer and breeze. visit the label’s web site for more details or purchase your copies directly from Beatport or any one of our other distributors.

Philly Trippin’ Thursday, January 24th, 2008

this past week, Mista A (who released Mental Health Hotline recently on the label) moved to Philadelphia. he is the latest in a long trend of musicians and producers moving to the Philly area.

our label mate Jody Vukas also relocated to the Philly suburbs with a new outlook on music and life. Philly must be where it’s at these days.

Here is what a few minutes of an impromptu production session looked like when we recently visited Mista A in his new lair….

Start STRUTTING you STUFF! Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

This summer was busy but for all the wrong reasons. that’s usually time for vacations, imposing family visiting the city, old folks dying, etc. the heat in new york didn’t make for any kind of creativity. lots of us around the office just laid around and binged on food, ice cream and other grown folks goodies. but work and production was never too far.

DECNY023 cdwe are starting the end of summer real nice here with the release of Don Davenport‘s debut on the label – and it’s the appropriate theme to get us back on track: STRUT. “Come over here and strut your stuff” – a line directly from the lyrics – penned and performed by Don. the official release date on Beatport is the 14th of September 2007. there are no less then 6 remixes coming on this package, from all the crew with the label (VB Heinze, Keith Just, Mista A, Lou Peoples and more).

In addition, Decibel NYC just completed the first music video to accompany one of our releases and yes, it is for STRUT. directed and edited by Chris Ohps – an up-and-coming video producer in harlem, nyc – the video is raw, simple and is just our first test into the video medium. Mr. Ohps was telling us that with the arrival of powerful computers and laptops and software such as Ulead Video Studio and Sony Vegas Pro, even bedroom directors can get in the game. we gave him a chance when he said he wanted to do the video and this is what we got back. we must admit that we are EXTREMELY pleased with the final product. judge for yourself… use the comments section to leave us your thoughts on the video.

Mista A goes Mental… Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Mista A - subway nycAfter a year of procrastinating like only a Mista A could do, a miraculous event transpired and it went a little something like this:

It all started with a hot and sunny 8 hours of driving, a pound of gelatinous confections and a few choice swear words for all those summer tourist drivers, then I finally made it to the big (and sour) apple, to finally put my new single to bed and reconnect with my peeps, Kevin and Cj in New York City.

Spanish Harlem, a six pack of Big Red and plenty watermelons were all I needed to get the juices cookin’. Under intense pressure and scrutiny, we got the single and the remix package for it wrapped up.

DECNY022 - Hental Mealth“Mental Health Hotline” is done and in the process I conjured up a little remix for the label’s newest superstar, Don Davenport. A saucy joint aptly titled “Strut“, which I think will slam all those fortunate to hear it on a dance floor.

I was totally blown away to the hear all the new-ies for the upcoming Fall and Winter release calendar and all I can say is: wear suspenders and slide up your depends because you will be moist!

So thanks to my family in NYC for keeping it cute and giving me new weapons for the masses, I left an automatic slayer for them to fire off at there discretion……so Catch it!
